All questions on the site will either be in one of three categories. They are: Unanswered (where the question has no answers), Open (where a question has pending answers that have not yet been selected by the asker as correct), and Answered (where the asker has selected an answer as correct, or has an answer that has received enough votes from other users). | '''GameFAQs Answers''' is a feature that was implemented by [[SBAllen]] on August 4th, 2008 as beta mode, and completed on October 7th, 2009. GameFAQs Answers is a feature that was implemented by SBAllen on August 4th, 2008 as beta mode, and completed on October 7th, 2009. It's available for users to use as an alternative to the GameFAQs boards for asking and answering questions. SBAllen's intentions were to have all game-related questions asked on GameFAQs Answers, so the boards could have topicality lightened, and users could have more fun with their topics. All questions on the site will either be in one of three categories. They are: Unanswered (where the question has no answers), Open (where a question has pending answers that have not yet been selected by the asker as correct), and Answered (where the asker has selected an answer as correct, or has an answer that has received enough votes from other users).
Questions are usually automatically closed seven days after creation, but are also influenced by the number of answers the question receives, as well as the number of votes the answers receive.
When asking a question, you'll need to pick one of eight possible categories for it to fall under. These categories are:
- Enemy/Boss Help - Help defeating an enemy
- Quest/Puzzle Help - Help solving a puzzle or quest
- Item Help - Help finding or using specific items
- Level Help - Help getting through a game level or specific area
- Plot Help - Help understanding why something happens, or other parts of the game plot
- Strategy Help - Help with strategy and tactics
- Technical Help - Help with running the game, getting the game to install, etc.
- Other Help - Help that doesn't fall under the other seven categories

Answers Redesign
On December 9th, 2008, it was announced on SBallin'! that there was a new redesign for GameFAQs Answers, with many new features intended to make it more "user-friendly." Some significant changes that were made were that you could easily search for questions already asked, you could get notifications or emails when your questions received new answers, and you could "thumb up" or "thumb down" user answers to questions.
GameFAQs Answers Index
Along with the redesign for the feature came a page where general Answers info could be displayed. Currently, the page has a "Question of the Week" on it, and five featured open questions from across the site. Below that is your personal Answers information. This information includes your User Name, your Answers Level, your Answers Privileges, the number of questions that you've asked, the number of questions that you've answered, and the number of open questions that you have. The index then displays the status (and number of answers) of the last five questions you asked, and the last five questions you answered or contributed an answer to.

When the new redesign came along, users were also given an Answers Level as incentive to use the new feature, though not much is known about how to increase your Answer Level. These levels determine how many questions and answers you can post on GameFAQs Answers each day. There are 13 levels total, and the default answers level is Bronze.
