LUEshi is an ASCII of a picture of Mario riding Yoshi. The ASCII originates form the boxart of the North American release of Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

LUEshi is an ASCII Art of Mario riding Yoshi. Perverted LUEsers in particular interpreted the image as Mario giving buttsecks to Yoshi. Originally created by Patamon, in late 2003 it quickly became one of the most infamous ASCIIs to grace GameFAQs. Like other ASCIIs, it was moderated for being disrupted, but from there it became disruptive even in ASCII topics. Punishment grew from notifications to suspensions and purgatory.

The leading cause of LUEshi's rise was the creation of "surprise LUEshi" topics. Surprise LUEshi topics involved a serious-looking title, with the post inside just LUEshi. This got out of hand to the point of boards (LUE in particular) were filled with topics like this, and disruptive posting moderations were handed out; karma loss for this was increased steadily over time as the number of LUEshis refused to go down. In a few cases, users were banned for posting LUEshi; one such case took place on March 15th, 2004, where several LUEsers intent on account suicide mass posted LUEshi. This day became known as the "'Cides of March".

The original LUEshi art, created by Patamon, was not moderated for a long while. It came from the Alphabet Zoo board and was dated October 31, 2003. However, this was deleted by a reckless moderator in September 2004. This caused another wave of protest on MBH and Alphabet Zoo. However, since Patamon had already left GameFAQs by this time, he did not contest, and the moderation was never overturned.

When the quantity of LUEshi abuse finally diminished after instant suspensions were given for them (which met with a lot of protest), the punishment was downgraded and eventually the ban was lifted, which allowed LUEshi normal ASCII status: this day was known as the LUEberation[1]. LUEshi was now allowed in a social and ASCII-marked topic). Currently, LUEshi no longer has a special status compared to other large ASCII. Surprise ASCII topics, however, remain punishable with a warning, but this punished regardless of which ASCII is used.

LUEshi has spawned several spinoff ASCIIs, featuring Yoshi and Mario and a host of other "surprise ASCIIs", including famous ones like Jinjo and several variations of Admiral Ackbar.

So Patamon, how does it feel to have made what is quite possibly the most abused ASCII ever?

Feels great! Now I know I've left a legacy even after I leave gamefaqs, not like that's anytime soon. It's hilarious to walk into LUE and see LUEshi on every topic. It's also a little scary so I try to stay away from posting my stuff there. Sorry to anyone who got a modded message.
