Nonstop Gaming General, previously known as Next-Gen Gaming and commonly shortened to NGG, is a special interest board used for discussion about all video games and game systems.
NGG's original purpose was to provide a place to talk about consoles, handhelds, and games that would appear in the next generation of gaming. However, NGG is more often seen as a board simply to troll on. Huge debates rage on the accuracy of sales numbers, upcoming game titles, game score predictions, and new console or handheld information. Most topics inevitably become Sony vs. Nintendo vs. Microsoft flame wars. Usually, a topic will start out innocently enough, but a troll will come in and say something to disrupt the mood. Then all hell breaks loose.
There is a major problem with fads, joke accounts and catchphrases on NGG. They are seen as in-jokes by regulars, while they are major annoyances to others. It is very hard to get a good debate going without one of these problems from occurring.
Though people still view this negatively, it has been proven that NGGites want this as they view it as their culture.
NGG now also has a social board that goes by the name Nonstop Gaming Social, or NGS, which is where people discuss stuff completely unrelated to video games, while including the regular culture of NGG.

Etymology
The title "Nonstop Gaming General" was at one point "Next-Gen Gaming". The title of "Next-Gen Gaming" existed since the beginning and was commonly shortened to "NGG". When the board was to be renamed so it would expand to a bigger group of gaming, most suggested keeping the acronym of "NGG". SBAllen took that into consideration and gave it the name "Nonstop Gaming General", which would both appeal to the wider category and keep its acronym.
Its acronym has caused some problems though. As people were referring to people who go to NGG as "NGGers" and someone even made the username "The NGGer", this title was soon banned because of how it looked too much like the offensive "n-word". Now instead, the people of NGG use the safer term "NGGite" when mentioning that they are from NGG, although they usually refer to each other as "Gaming Pal" or "GP".
Users Groups
- Main article: User Groups of NGG
The majority of NGG users are divided into three distinct groups, depending upon their gaming console preference. While initially conceived as derogatory terms for trolls, most people have come to adopt and accept their title as simply referring to their company of choice. These include Drone;a Nintendo fan, Tool; a Sony fan, and Bot; a Microsoft fan. There are also smaller categories which include PC Gamers and the mythical category of unbiased. Other than these exist group combinations, where people prefer two consoles on an equal basis, which includes the groups of Wii60, PSWii, and PS360.
Clubs
- Main article: Clubs of NGG
There are a few smaller groups on NGG, although most aren't recognized by the general populous. They are created based on a popular idea on NGG. One creates a topic for that idea, to which people apply to join that club. When done, they put a tag of proof in their sigs. They might also make a banner instead of a tag of proof. Though many are created and soon die off out of lack of popularity or since it was made as a joke. Those that do remain continue to grow bigger as well as influence a great deal of NGG as an organization. They create alliances and enemies as they argue with each other. The current most recognized clubs of NGG remain as the truly official clubs of NGG.
Terminology
- Main article: Terminology of NGG
NGG also has its own unique brand of terminologies. It is a great aspect which is what separates NGG from the rest of GameFAQs. A great many of these terms have been borrowed from elsewhere but changed to have its own style on NGG. It is usually considered hard for a new person to NGG to truly understand the NGGites with the heavy amount of their terminology they use.

The Death of NGG
Starting with the deletion of Hard Core Gamer's topic "Classic or not? Day 33: Yoshi's Island" and his questioning what was on topic on NGG, Wii-related topics were deleted on NGG for being off-topic. Some of NGG's users complained to the mods about abuse of power on Message Board Help and Hellhole. Unfortunately, this provoked the mods, led by ChronoLV99, to curse the board with a sticky which gave the topicality of the board as being discussion of the PS2, the GameCube, the XBox, the Wii, the XBox 360, the PS3, current and future PC games (software), the DS, and the PSP. However, as the Gameboy Advance and Dreamcast were not mentioned in the list, they became off-topic. Also, any mention of tools, bots, or drones could be considered off-topic. So, as NGG's greatness began to fade those left migrated to Hollywood Hijinx, were they soon found that Hard Core Gamer was quite proud of this accomplishment and thus excommunicated him through the use of the nickname "Hard Core Lamer", although the animosity towards HCG has died out since then. Soon NGG simply became as a news or discussion board, ripped of its soul, perhaps forever. It wasn't long though before the mods ruled, after hearing complaints, that the GBA was indeed on-topic; however, the DC was left forever out of any on-topic discussion on NGG. But it seems that now all is not lost. The spirit of NGG has almost returned, and the flame wars still continue. When the topicality sticky was posted, there was still some confusion as to what was considered on-topic. This prompted the second post in the sticky, which said that the Dreamcast was off-topic. This made many users start a large fad of posting Dreamcast-related topics, usually claiming it was the best console ever.
NGG receives a Karma Limit
On May 29, 2007, NGG became one of four other special interest boards(Pro Wrestling: WWE, Music: Metal and Music: Rap and Hip Hop are the other boards) to have their karma limit raised from 10 to 15. Some posters welcomed this change, as it would weed out the provisional accounts and other lower leveled trolling accounts. Others think it made NGG worse, as it eliminated the said lower level trolling accounts, which are often viewed as being part of NGG.
The NGG Resolution
It started when a poster by the name of RyanDG made a topic on NGG called "Dreamcast has 2 new games at Leizpig. Can it be on topic now?".
On Augest 20th, 2007, Captain_Mudkipz made a topic on MBH saying that the Dreamcast should be on-topic because two games were being shown for it at Leizpig whereas the PS3 had only 1 game being shown. This led to Zhuge Liang, a moderator, saying that he was going to ask the other moderators about it. Then later that night, CronoLV99 made a topic on NGG asking NGG users what they thought should happen to NGG topicality-wise. The topic quickly reached 500 posts without a clear verdict on what to do.
SBAllen made another topic on NGG continuing to ask what NGG users wanted. SBAllen at first said that he planned to keep everything the same including keep Dreamcast off-topic and that it would never become on topic, but instead that he was going to make seven extra boards, which each would be based on a certain time period in gaming. People soon turned furious that nothing good was to come out of it, including Kijunaa, who was so angry that Dreamcast would never become on-topic that "she" posted a link to a Pokemon porn site, which "she" soon was banned over.
People said that this would alienate people from NGG permanently as there would be too much board hoping, and thus suggested that SBAllen instead turn NGG into a gaming general board where all types of games would be discussed on without it just being limited to next gen. Along with that, people said they wanted a social board as well for the off-topic culture of NGG as well.
While SBAllen didn't want to do it at first, and believed that those boards would succeed, he in the end gave in to the peoples demand and said he will make those 7 boards, plus one dedicated to everything in one, which meant a gaming general, and said he will also make a social board. This quickly made everyone cheer for joy that NGG was finally to become the way it was before 2006, where they could discuss all types of gaming.
Though after this was decided, all that was left was what to call this new gaming general, which led to an even bigger issue.
The Naming Controversy
On the very same day the NGG Resolution happened, people realized that they can't call it "Next-Gen Gaming" as it this change was going to include more than just next generation gaming, thus would be incorrect to keep that title.
At first, within SBAllen's topic, people started to come up with a bunch of names. SBAllen mentioned that he can either use a new name or rework the NGG acronym to fit the new name. The first very popular name was "Gaming in General" which shortened out to "GiG". Many people started to oppose that name as its shortened form sounded "lame" according to others, and that if used to refer to themselves would be worse. Also users said that NGG needs to keep the acronym of NGG as it was what all of GameFAQs recognized them as, and thus if the name is changed, people wouldn't know who they are at all.
Many wanted it to just keep the NGG acronyms as the name, much like how WoT kept its acronyms as its title. Though, many didn't think that would happen, so many started to learn towards having to come up with a name that would use the NGG acronyms. The first popular one that came up was "New Gaming General". It was heavily spammed out by Super Japans Top3 so it would make the cut. People at first didn't get what it meant, but was soon explained to mean that it would refer to the new gaming board they are getting. While that was popular another name also came up using NGG's acronym called "Neo Gaming General". This turned out even more popular. Though people who wanted GiG said that these people should look forward to the future rather than the past, while others said it is their pride.
Eventually SBAllens topic reached 500, which the last post was "New Gaming General". That final post quickly turned into a running joke that just because it was last that, that is what the new gaming general board should be called. Though a lead mod called SineNomine later on made another post after it was closed suggesting the name "Never Gonna (Give you up) Gaming". Topics started to be created at a high rate after SBAllens topic ended, with them either suggesting the names, "New Gaming General", "Neo Gaming General", or "Gaming in General."
Ironically after so much controversy, none of these names were used.
The NGG Revival
Around 9:00 PM EST on August 21st, 2007 Next-Gen Gaming ended and was reborn as Nonstop Gaming General and a new sister board called Nonstop Gaming Social, with all the stickies completely removed. NGGites rejoiced with them continuously praising SBAllen for listening to them, to the point where they started calling him SBAllah, to show how much of a messiah he was the NGG. Moderation severely dropped from then and people started to continuously make topics about old systems, specifically the Dreamcast as that was one of the post heavily moderated system on the previous NGG days. ChronoLV99 also gave somewhat an apology to what had happened in the previous year. People surprising did end up easily forgiving him as well.
While NGG was rejoicing, it should be noted that SBAllen, while he said he was going to make seven other boards for each generation of gaming, he decided not to, but did say he will try it out one day. The name also received a fair bit of controversy as it wasn't any of the ones suggested the day before, including some who were confused as to whether this was actually NGG or not. Most though did accept the name as it kept the NGG acronym.
The people who were fighting the mods for the past year, who had left to other boards such as Game Guru deciding to say goodbye to those boards and left back to NGG, proud along with those revolutionaries who didn't leave that they made a difference by causing so much trouble so that even SBAllen would notice.
From that day forward, NGG returned to the way it was before 2006, where instead of fighting against the mods, they fought amongst each other over games and consoles.
Spinoffs
NGG 2
- Main article: NGG 2
NGG 2 (also known as Board 213) was a successful spinoff forum of NGG created by NextGenWarrior. It served as an offsite, ToS free board for several posters and lasted for several months prior to its self-destruction at the end of July 2006/early August 2006.
Hollywood Hijinx
It was created in 2004 by houjix as his own board. He advertised it in his sig, and people from NGG just started going there because houjix was quite popular. It was supposed to be a place where no one marked each other (as outlined in the houjix amendments). houjix eventually vanished and it's become somewhat of a NGG social board since then.
Game Guru: NGG 3
With the NGGvolution happening, the people of NGG were led by User:Super_Japans_Top3 to Hollywood Hijinx to become their next NGG due to the perceived moderators corruption. Once they realized that they weren't wanted on Hollywood Hijinx, Smelly_Garage found a new board to take the people who left NGG.
The board was Game Guru, which was quickly loved to how the name shows their pride as gamers. The board quickly started to grow in popularity as the group who came was told many others from NGG as well. The post counts started to soon catch up the Hollywood Hijinx as well.
Super_Japans_Top3, who was the head of this revolution, decided he wanted to attract all of NGG here and make it the next NGG once and for all. So he started to speak to a bunch of people who were heavily supportive of the moment of a plan. They agreed on advertising it through their sig so they won't get banned for telling people to invade a board. Super Japans Top3 though also had a plan of making multiple alts on a different computer and continuously spam NGG and advertise to come to Game Guru. Though the idea wasn't liked by the rest of the revolutionaries as they thought it would be far too disruptive. Thus Super Japans Top3 decided to hold off plans until September, where he would tone it down and use an upgraded version.
Though his plan was soon put off once NGG finally met a resolution, where the topicality would be taken down. Thus Super_Japans_Top3 then decided to make a topic on Game Guru, declaring the revolution over and the board finished as their purpose of the revolution has been fulfilled now on NGG. Thus the users of Game Guru permanently left it and returned to NGG.
