Creation

In early 2001, the Paper Mario board was much like any other game board of the time. It was not long after the release of this psuedo-sequel to Super Mario RPG, and there was a good deal of activity. With so many members, clans and factions were being created constantly. The few that actually succeeded were large, often leading a number of clan-topics such as games and clubhouses. Moderators did not look kindly on this, and began deleting threads the current Terms of Service classified as off-topic. This resulted in outrage on the part of the board's members along with a movement for the creation of a Social Board, where such topics could live in peace. Finally, in early March of 2001, Paper Mario Social came into existence. Its first topic, an insult directed towards everyone, was posted by the user willis5225.

Fads

Like other boards, Paper Mario Social has been the home of many fads.

Ye Olde Fad: A series of topics that lasted a few months, acting usually as stores or hangouts. Each topic was entitled "Ye Olde Foobar Shoppe", where "foobar" was the name of whatever goods the imaginary store sold.

RE:: A more recent fad, construed by some to be a means of increasing the board's total number of topics. Instead of replying inside a topic in typical GameFAQs fashion, users would post "RE:" and then the topic they were responding to, mimicking the way responses are handled on more primitive message board systems. Many of these topics were seen as disruptive and deleted by moderators.

People of PMS: Another recent fad, in which PMSians would post topics whose titles began with the words "People of PMS".

Rtow ri rgw kwdr (pt tohjy): A fad where users type one key to the left or right of whatever they're trying to say. An example is "yu[r ;olr yjod" becoming "type like this."

PMS Pager: This fad is a newer way to address the people of PMS. Rather than the old "People of PMS", they now use PMS Pager.

Mockoff Topics:This fad is when someone makes a topic, and other people like to make a similar topic title, but they make it similar to a previous topic. For example, if someone put, "I like dogs", someone would put "I like logs" "I like bogs" and then make the message detail similar.

Government

PMS has had a number of governments during its existence. The original monarchy was comprised of an elected king, and a group of dukes and barons (as well as their female counterparts). In the election, which left the government a monarchy in name only, Willis "Wil" 5225 won by a small margin over Yazinka. This system lived on for a while, with people not really caring much and using titles only for humor or frivilous things. Eventually, though, the complaining of a few and indifference of many resulted in the collapse of the government. A second attempt was made at some point along the line, and ZZTMan was elected this time. During his short reign, ZZTMan achieved his two goals. First, because of his extreme dislike of the board games, he jailed PMS Survivor creator AzumarrilMan. Second, he declared a state of Anarchy in PMS. Willis then attempted to set up a Roman-style council, but it only lasted a few weeks. Shortly thereafter, a constitution was drawn up. While it was never fully ratified, it is the accepted law of the land, detailing such issues as n00bs and newbies, flames, marking, posting standards, etc. Also, the first article laid out the rule that no government would again be established on PMS, stating "It is a tried and failed system..." and "Anarchy is cool."
