A VIP is an account with board user levels 40, 41, 42, or 43. These accounts belong to people who work for, or represent game developers or publishers. They are used primarily for dealing with information or speculation regarding their companies and/or games. Accounts that are assigned VIP status are not to be used as a social account; VIPs should create an alt account for this purpose.
Level 40 is the generic VIP level, while levels 41, 42 and 43 are assigned specifically to users who work in the media, industry, or are involved in the production of games, respectively.
CJayC reopened signups for VIP accounts in late 2005 and they have remained open since.
